Second Hand Prose

The Friends of the Coronado Public Library operates Second Hand Prose bookstore selling donated books, DVD’s, Blu-ray discs, audio books, rare books, and gift items. Our storefront is located behind the Library on D Avenue, across from the high school and is open daily.  A second book shop location is in the Library lobby with a large selection of paperback fiction and non-fiction for adults, teens, and children, gift items and cards, DVD’s and audiobooks. 

We are currently accepting donations of newer books published within the past five years, and children’s books that are in good condition. We are also accepting donations of rare and exceptional books. If you have any questions about these donation guidelines please contact us at info@coronadofol.org. Donations can be brought to Second Hand Prose during operating hours.

All sale proceeds fund Library programs for children, teens and adults.

Book Donation Guideline

The Friends of the Coronado Public Library (Friends) welcome donations of books, DVD’s and audiobooks. These donations are sold throughout the year at Second Hand Prose bookstore operated by the Friends, in the bookstore located in the Library lobby, and at sales held at various times during the year. 

Donations can be brought to Second Hand Prose shop during operating hours.  Please do not leave books at the front door of the Library or Second Hand Prose.

The Friends appreciate your donations.  Please help our volunteers who sort them by observing the following guidelines:

  • Newer hardcover and paperback fiction and non-fiction in good condition published within the past 5 years.

  • Clean, undamaged copies of classic titles

  • Commercially produced DVDs

  • Puzzles with all of the pieces (secure boxes with tape)

  • Audio books on CD and Playaway audiobooks

  • Children’s hardcover and paperback books in good condition  

  • Magazines issued within last six months

  • Rare and exceptional books

 

PLEASE DO NOT DONATE:

  • Damaged books or materials

  • Computer software

  • CD’s, VHS tapes, audiocassettes, 8 track tapes

  • Encyclopedias

  • High School annuals or yearbooks

  • Phonographic records

  • Items that are soiled, torn, worn, moldy or damp

 

We cannot accept damaged books with broken bindings, missing pages, soiled, musty, mildew, water damage, or have excessive notes or highlighting in the text. 

 

Please drop off your donations at the Second Hand Prose book shop (please refer to the top of this page for location and hours of operation). The Friends of the Coronado Public Library is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization, and donations are tax deductible as a charitable contribution to the extent allowed by law. A receipt is available upon request. Library staff or a Friends volunteer cannot affirm the value of your donation.
