Welcome to
For more than 20 years, our bookstore—formerly known as Second Hand Prose—has been a treasured part of the Coronado Public Library community.
Today, as the Friends Bookstore, that tradition continues with a wide selection of gently used books and gifts, with every purchase helping support the Library programs and services our community enjoys.
Located behind the Library on D Avenue, across from Coronado High School, the Friends Bookstore is open daily and offers something for readers of all ages.
Friends Honor Shop in the Library Lobby
Visitors can also browse the Friends Honor Shop in the Library lobby for additional books, gifts, and specialty items.
At the heart of the Friends Bookstore are our dedicated volunteers, whose time, care, and commitment have sustained this special place for decades. We are deeply grateful for all they do—and we invite you to stop by, find your next great read, and support the Coronado Public Library with every purchase.

Donations Welcome
The Friends Bookstore welcomes donations of gently used books, media, and select specialty items. To help our volunteers make the best use of limited sorting and storage space, we are currently prioritizing newer titles, recent bestsellers, and books in good condition, as well as rare, collectible, local-interest, and exceptional titles.

Donation Guidelines
Thank you for supporting the Friends Bookstore and the Coronado Public Library. Donations of quality books and media help fund Library programs, events, resources, scholarships, and services for our community.
To help our volunteers make the best use of limited sorting, storage, and shelf space, we ask that donations meet the following guidelines. While we welcome many quality donations, we are especially interested in books published within the last five years, as these are often in highest demand among our customers. We also welcome rare, collectible, local-interest, and exceptional titles regardless of publication date.

*Exceptions may be made for classic, collectible, local-interest, and exceptional titles.
Donation Drop-Off
Donations may be dropped off at the Friends Bookstore during operating hours.
Bookstore Hours
Monday–Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Sunday: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Please do not leave donations outside the Library or bookstore.
If you have more than three boxes or bags of donations, please call us at (619) 435-1516 so we can help coordinate your drop-off.
Tax Information
The Friends of the Coronado Public Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public benefit organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Receipts are available upon request.
Friends volunteers and Library staff are unable to determine the value of donated items.
